Arizona The Valley Metro Regional Public Transit Authority is planning to build the South Central Light Rail Extension in Phoenix. The project will extend light rail service 5.5 miles south from the existing Valley Metro light-rail line in downtown Phoenix to Baseline Road. The route would connect with the existing line at Washington and Jefferson Streets using a one-way couplet, with southbound operations on First Avenue and northbound operations on Central Avenue, before converging at Hadley Street to operate within the Central Avenue median in both directions to its terminus. AECOM is the designer, and Kiewit Infrastructure West is the construction manager. Construction is expected to start in late 20189 and be completed in 2023. The project is valued at $900 million. Indiana Ball State University is planning to build a five-story, 205,000-sq-ft Foundational Science Building on its campus in Muncie. Maine The U.S. General Services Administration is planning to revamp the Port of Entry Facility in Madawaska. One component of the project entails building a new 22,000-sq-ft customs facility. The second component is a new bridge. Heavy commercial traffic on the existing bridge, erected in 1921, was halted in October 2017, when authorities imposed a reduced weight restriction of five tons, due to concerns about its structural integrity. Nebraska Canine Commons, a nonprofit, is planning to build Canine Commons, an indoor dog park, in Omaha. The 70,000-sq-ft facility will have a play area with dog-agility and playground equipment, all atop specialized turf with a drainage system designed to manage liquid waste and minimize odor. The facility will also include a microclinic and classrooms with space for as many as 60 for dog-training classes. A design-build partnership of Architecture Etcetera, as the designer, and Ayars & Ayars Inc., the general contractor, has been selected. The project is valued at $16 million. Washington Kennewick School District No. 17 is planning to replace Kennewick High School. The new school building, with a capacity of 2,000 students, will have a smaller footprint, with a two-story main building instead of a one-story building. It will be anchored by Art Fuller Auditorium and the Lions Den gym. The auditorium, which can hold about 1,200 people, will be renovated as part of the project. Kentucky Braidy Industries, Inc. has chosen Industrial Project Innovation, LLC to serve as construction manager for an aluminum rolling mill in Ashland, the first greenfield aluminum rolling mill built in the U.S. in 35 years. The 2.5-million-sq-ft mill is being built on a 300-acre site. Kiewit is the EPC contractor. Construction began in June 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2020. Wisconsin Forward Management Inc. has started building The Catalyst on Main, a mixed-use project in Sun Prairie. The project includes four four-story buildings, totaling 176,416 sq ft. The development will contain 148 apartments and 5,000 sq ft of retail space and will include a dog park, an outdoor swimming pool, a clubhouse, a community room and a theater room. New Jersey 1/1/19 The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is seeking bids from contractors interested in rehabilitating taxiways G, L and P at Teterboro Airport. The work includes  milling, pavement repair, asphalt concrete paving, removal and replacement of in-ground light fixtures, and pavement markings. Louisiana 1/10/19 The Louisiana Coastal Protection & Restoration Authority is seeking qualifications from construction management-at-risk firms for the Mid-Breton Sediment Diversion Project. The project is intended to divert sediment-laden water from the Mississippi River to the Mid-Breton Sound Basin to reconnect and re-establish the deltaic sediment deposition process between the Mississippi River and the Breton Sound Basin, delivering sediment, freshwater and nutrients to reduce land loss and sustain wetlands.
