Peter Ruane, American Road & Transportation Builders Association president and CEO, will retire in October after 30 years heading the organization, ARTBA said on June 19. William Toohey, the association’s longtime chief operating officer, will become acting CEO. A search committee has begun to seek a successor to the 73-year-old Ruane. During his tenure, he helped push for several major multiyear highway-transit reauthorization bills. ARTBA’s membership also has tripled, to more than 8,200, and its budget has risen to $13.5 million from $1.5 million under his watch. Ruane did not disclose any future employment plans.
