New Zealand dedicated the $8-million Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial, Christchurch, on Feb. 22, the sixth anniversary of the magnitude-6.3 quake that killed 185. The 112.5-meter-long concrete wall clad in Italian marble was designed by Slovenian architect Grega Vezjak, the winner of a global contest. Contractor Otakaro Ltd. managed construction. The damaged region now is pushing an estimated $50- billion redevelopment.
