Seven architects are on the short list to produce conceptual designs for the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art, located in the heart of Riga. Malcolm Reading Consultants, which organized the competition, selected those on the short list from 25 invited submitters.

The short-listed firms for the $46.7-million project are Adjaye Associates and Caruso St. John Architects, both from the U.K.; Architects Lahdelma & Mahlamaki, Finland; Henning Larsen Architects, Denmark; Neutelings Riedijk Architects, the Netherlands; Sauerbruch Hutton, Germany; and wHY, the U.S.

The museum is funded by the Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation and the ABLV Charitable Foundation. Both groups are working with the Republic of Latvia's ministry of culture.

An exhibit of the short-listed firms’ conceptual designs, developed in association with local architects, is planned for the spring. The announcement of the winner is set for May.
