Colorado The University of Colorado is planning to build a data center on its East Campus in Boulder. The project entails building an 8,231-sq-ft data center inside the existing MacAllister Building. The data center will serve the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Complex, which will comprise several academic units and several federal agencies engaged in the geosciences. Minnesota Dominium Development & Acquisition Inc. is planning to build the A-Mill Artists Lofts in Minneapolis. The project entails converting a six-building complex into 251 low-income apartments for artists, as well as studios and performance spaces, and building a 200-space parking garage. The seven-story, 160,000-sq-ft Pillsbury A-Mill building, erected in 1881, was the largest flour mill in the world for 40 years. Pillsbury stopped producing flour there in 2003. It has been designated a National Historic Landmark. Construction is expected to begin in June 2013 and be completed in early 2015. The general contractor is Weis Builders. California The California High Speed Rail Authority is currently evaluating bids from five teams seeking the design-build contract for the project's first phase, from Madera to Fresno. This phase entails a segment between 26 and 33 miles long, depending on the final alignment, and will include 12 grade separations, two viaducts, one tunnel and a major crossing across the San Joaquin River. Texas 3/11 The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking design-build bidders for the North Campus Parking Garage. The project entails designing and building a 13-story, 43,200-sq-ft parking structure with at least 1,575 parking spaces and ramps that provide access to two levels with each revolution. The project also includes a pedestrian bridge from the garage elevator lobby to level two of the Zayed Building. The project has been valued at $27.6 million. New Jersey 3/13 The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is seeking bidders to build the Great Egg Harbor and Drag Channel Bridge replacement. The job entails building a new bridge to carry Garden State Parkway southbound traffic over Great Egg Harbor Bay and Drag Channel. The structure will comprise a 3,834-ft-long bridge over Great Egg Harbor and a 770-ft-long bridge over Drag Channel, both consisting of prestressed concrete girders, high-performance concrete decks, pile-supported piers and abutments. The project also includes building 4,900 ft of new approach roadways and demolition of the existing Beasley's Point Bridge. The project has been valued at $150 million to $180 million. Florida 4/3 Florida Power & Light is requesting proposals from firms seeking to build two gas pipelines. The project entails building a 560-mile-long upstream pipeline from Choctaw County, Ala., to a new Central Florida Hub near Orlando and a 140-mile-long downstream pipeline from Orlando to the Martin County Power Plant. The pipelines must be capable of carrying a maximum daily quantity (MDQ) of 400,000 MMbtu per day beginning in May 2017 and an incremental MDQ of 200,000 Mmbtu per day by May 2020.
