New Jersey Senators Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez, both Democrats, have put a “hold” on Robert Sturgell, President Bush’s pick to head the Federal Aviation Administration. Sturgell has been FAA deputy administrator since 2003 and acting chief since Sept. 14. The New Jerseyans criticize air traffic controller staffing and other issues. A source says Democrats would not want any GOP pick atop FAA if they feel their party can win the White House on Nov. 4.
