Press Museum Opens Late, Soon After On-Time Ballpark

he Clark/Hunt/Smoot design-build joint venture is not only celebrating the on-time, on-budget completion of the $611-million baseball park for the Washington Nationals, it is celebrating a ballpark construction speed record—23 months. On Pennsylvania Avenue, the “Newseum,” a media museum, also is enjoying a project completion but for different reasons. The multi-use building, which contains apartments, opened April 11, about six months late and 20% over the $238-million building budget. “That’s not bad considering the complexity of the project,” says Newseum President Peter Prichard.
