The University of Utah is in design development on a project to install utility tunnels below the Salt Lake City campus' HPER Mall that will eliminate nearly all walkways and site features along the length of the mall. The completed project will create an extensive pedestrian mall in the center of campus with significant pedestrian and bicycle traffic that will result in complex traffic patterns and conflicts. The university and its consultants are working to resolve the traffic issues, which include campus shuttles, skateboarding and integrating a bioswale in the middle of the mall. A construction schedule has yet to be determined, and fundraising is still in progress. Owner: University of Utah, Facilities Management, 1795 E.
