DPR Construction's contract for Novelis required transforming an existing 162,000-sq-ft, single-story warehouse and office building into a research and development facility focused on metal casting and fabrication. The project included the installation of two air-cooled chillers, a pre-action and clean-agent fire protection system, 17 fume hoods and oxygen and nitrogen piping.

Project Forward, in Kennesaw, Ga., won an "Award of Merit" in the Industrial and Manufacturing category.

Due to the requirements of the new facility's equipment, contractors made substantial modifications to the existing building's mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. With DPR emphasizing prefabrication, the electrical contractor utilized the process for junction boxes, and the mechanical contractor did the same for spool pieces for the chilled water line.
