International engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti opened a new office in Denver on Jan 30. The firm, which now has 25 offices internationally, started the Colorado location to better serve current and potential clients in the western region and the mountain states. Senior Principal Steve Hofmeister will oversee the office as manager of the company’s Midwest region. HITT Contracting Inc., Falls Church, Va., one of the largest U.S. general contractors, kicked off its 75th anniversary year in 2012 by opening a new office in Golden, Colo. Building upon its existing base of clients in the West, the company’s Colorado office will provide construction services for corporate interiors, mission critical, law firms, hospitality, health-care, federal and commercial mixed-use projects. The Colorado Dept. of Transportation, Douglas County and the Federal Highway Administration held a ribbon-cutting on Dec. 12 marking the opening of the new flyover ramp from southbound Santa Fe Drive to eastbound C-470—four months ahead of schedule and approximately $600,000 under budget. The $23.3-million project, partially funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, constructed the flyover ramp as well as a vehicle and a pedestrian bridge over Erickson Boulevard. A new climbing lane was constructed on eastbound C-470 between Santa Fe Drive and Lucent Boulevard, and the bicycle/pedestrian trail was reconstructed.
