Global architecture and design firm Stantec is providing project management, planning, architecture, interior design, lighting design, and sustainability design on the $95 million project.

The University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) recently reached a major milestone, as it celebrated its official “topping out” for its new City Heights Residence Hall and Learning Commons. The 182,000-square-foot residence hall, which will represent the first on-campus student housing complex for the university, will add approximately 555 beds to the center of the urban campus. The project is being delivered by the JE Dunn/Stantec design-build team.

On Friday, May 15, GE Johnson installed the final steel beam on the Switchbacks FC Stadium, located in Downtown Colorado Springs. The Switchbacks FC Stadium will be a 145,500-square-foot multi-use facility that can accommodate a variety of sporting and entertainment events, serving as the permanent home of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks Football Club (FC) soccer team. GE Johnson broke ground in December 2019 and the project is currently scheduled to complete in the spring of 2021.

Topping Out of Pikes Peak Summit Complex with Placement of Highest Steel Beam
Colorado Springs, Colo., Nov. 12, 2019 – On Saturday, Nov. 9, GE Johnson and Peak Custom Fabrication crews erected and installed the highest steel beam on the Pikes Peak Summit Complex. Per tradition, the beam was flanked by the American and Colorado state flags.

As part of a robust design and construction plan, South Dakota State University (SDSU) has selected Burns & McDonnell as the commissioning agent to provide LEED Fundamental & Enhanced services for its state-of-the-art Raven Precision Agriculture Center. The commissioning team will conduct design reviews, observe construction progress, participate in equipment start-ups and functionally test all systems to confirm they are operating efficiently and as designed.

The design team at RTA Architects drew inspiration for the St. Francis Medical Center Level III NICU renovation and expansion from the beautiful Rocky Mountain backdrop. The parti for the NICU is the canopy of the forest, with large sweeps on the ceiling and floor plane mimicking the light and shadow of a parting sky. Patterning on the NICU doors express the tangle of branches and helps diminish the expansive corridor, while sparkle lights mimic a starry night sky.

In stark contrast to a “typical” NICU where multiple babies are cared for in open wards, the newly renovated and expanded Level III NICU by RTA Architects at St. Francis Medical Center has 46 private single-family rooms, two of which are state-of-the-art couplet care rooms where mothers and babies are kept together and cared for by the same healthcare team. The St. Francis Medical Center NICU is the only one in Colorado, and one of the few in the nation, with couplet care rooms.

The Wellness Garden in the newly renovated and expanded St. Francis Medical Center Level III NICU by RTA Architects is a bright daylit place for respite, refection, and contemplation. Down the meandering path flanked by seated garden walls and unique lighting fixtures and art pieces is the refection area. A casual soft seating area centered on a whimsical flowing tree provides a focal point of hope. The stone labyrinth serves as a walk-centered spiritual tool for the heart, mind, and soul.

The facility will store, operate, maintain and service UTA’s current fleet of compressed natural gas and electric vehicles, with room for future expansion. Colorado-based design-build firm, The Neenan Company, won International Interior Design Association's LEARN project award in the Rocky Mountain Chapter for its adaptive reuse project, Colorado Early Colleges Fort Collins. Serving as architect and general contractor for the 91,000-square-foot facility, redevelopments expanded the school to almost four times the size of the former Advanced Energy building, which holds 30 teaching spaces, a gymnasium, full health clinic, and 450-seat auditorium.

Big-D Construction teams work on constructing a 901,440 square-foot warehouse and distribution facility west of Salt Lake City. The Freeport West Building #14 project consists of concrete tilt-up panels, skylights, overhead doors, and loading dock equipment. The facility is currently the largest build-to-suit project in Utah history and will create nearly 100 manufacturing and distribution jobs once complete.

Big-D Construction teams are approaching the homestretch on the Cornerstone at Cottonwood Corporate Center Phase 2 project in Utah. Cornerstone Phase II consists of an 180,707 square-foot office building and a 134,399 square-foot parking structure. The building will stand four-stories and connect to the Phase I building through an elegant three-story glass lobby, designed to blend art and architecture.

A final image from the O.C. Tanner Re-Skin project in Salt Lake City, Utah. Big-D Construction recently completed the project that involved the delicate process of removing the existing exterior façade and replace it with a new steel-support structure and 30,000 square-feet of glass curtain wall. A new employee entrance lobby was added to help give the company headquarters a modern look. The project also included the complete replacement of the existing landscape that is located east of campus.
