Skanska has been selected to construct an approximately five-story, 17,200-sq-ft intermediate and high school at South Hunter’s Point in Long Island City, N.Y., through a contract totaling $61 million. The school will consist of 26 classrooms and include teaching facilities for 1,000 intermediate and high school students as well as laboratories, a music suite, gym, kitchen and cafeteria and a 4,736-sq-ft roof terrace. Skanska will be responsible for implementing the project ,which will be designed to meet Silver LEED certification.
Construction is ongoing at Bronx Community College ’s new 98,000-sq-ft North Instructional Building and Library, where a recent supply of building products and submittal services has been provided to help meet the project’s scheduled completion date. On The Scene February 7, 2011 Vornado Realty Trust’s The new cogeneration facility at Vornado’s One Penn Plaza, one of the ten largest commercial office buildings in New York City, was recently unveiled to the public as part of an ongoing program of sustainable upgrades across Vornado Realty Trust’s 22 million-sq-ft portfolio in the city. The 6.2-megawatt cogeneration plant at One Penn Plaza is the largest cogeneration facility in a commercial office building in New York City, supplying 50% of electricity usage for the building as well as reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint by 40%. Construction is currently under way for the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission�s River Barge Park in Carlstadt, New Jersey lead by a team that includes DMR Architects of Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey and general contractor, Arco Construction Group of Elizabeth, New Jersey. The NJMC had to first acquire four acres in Carlstadt, formerly known as the Barge Club, for redevelopment as a riverfront park with approximately 400-miles of shoreline in order to help preserve open space and provide public access to the Hackensack River. A final design has been completed for the construction of the $150 million New Brunswick Gateway Transit Village, a 632,000-sq-ft mixed-use building located at the intersection of Somerset Street and Easton Avenue in downtown New Brunswick, New Jersey that will link the campus of Rutgers University as well as the larger community to the local train station.
