The new cogeneration facility at Vornado’s One Penn Plaza, one of the ten largest commercial office buildings in New York City, was recently unveiled to the public as part of an ongoing program of sustainable upgrades across Vornado Realty Trust’s 22 million-sq-ft portfolio in the city. The 6.2-megawatt cogeneration plant at One Penn Plaza is the largest cogeneration facility in a commercial office building in New York City, supplying 50% of electricity usage for the building as well as reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint by 40%.

The New York Fire Safety Academy recently conducted a test burn of eight shanties at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall’s Island in New York. It was the first research project scheduled by the Fire Safety Academy to identify materials and processes designed to limit exposure to fires and fire-related incidents on New York City construction sites. Professional Women in Construction’s 30th Anniversary Holiday Gala was held Dec 10 at the Yale Club in New York City. The gala honored women who played key roles in the $11-billion World Trade Center Construction project , a 16-acre redevelopment that is back on track and moving towards completion.
