Great Wolf Lodges may all look similar aesthetically, but building its largest resort proved as complex as hospital construction, the project team says. The 680,000-sq-ft facility includes restaurants, a lobby with an audio/visual display with special effects, arcades, a bowling alley, a mirror maze, an indoor climbing area, 22 waterslides, a wave pool, a lazy river and an outdoor pool.
To avoid errors in the hotel rooms, the team spent a month creating full mock-ups of each room type so sign-offs for rough-in and finishes could be done before the rooms were installed en masse.

Supply chain issues prevented the team’s preferred material for roof decking and trusses from easily being procured so the team deployed bar joists and metal decking with three layers of high-performance coating to protect against corrosion in the water park’s warm, wet environment. The team managed the quality control and installation process to ensure the high-performance coating was applied completely and correctly to deliver a long-lasting product.
The team’s use of prefabrication helped accelerate the schedule. Various components were constructed off site and then assembled on site, ensuring a safer project and reducing the time and effort required for onsite construction.
