Kitchell Contractors’ 20,000-sq-ft renovation and addition at University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work delivered a new main entrance, a new outdoor student gathering plaza and a renovation of the first floor that included installation of an elaborate mosaic art wall mural.

Although Kitchell served as construction manager-at-risk, it was brought on board two weeks after 50% design documents had already been presented and received owner buy-in. Kitchell engaged its own quality assurance staff and in-house architects to develop design alternatives that helped maintain the vision for the project.

Although the owner requested some additional costly design features, Kitchell was able to work with the team to keep the project on budget.
