Olefins Recovery Project
Award of Merit
Owner: Gulf Coast Growth Ventures
Lead Design Firm: Chiyoda International
Built as part of a 1.8-million-tonnes-per-annum greenfield ethylene plant, the joint venture team designed and built the utility and olefins recovery section of the modular-focused facility. The scope included installation of six preassembled olefins recovery equipment modules, four preassembled olefins furnace modules, four utility modules, three modular boiler units, 26 preassembled pipe rack modules and four furnace modules.
Modules were transported via self-propelled modular transporters along a five-mile haul road. The team overcame challenges related to COVID-19, Hurricane Hanna, a statewide deep freeze with power outages in February 2021 and Tropical Storm Nicholas to deliver the project ahead of schedule and below budget.
