The world’s largest manufacturer of garbage disposals and instant hot water dispensers wanted a modern, state-of-the-art work environment that would optimize productivity and help attract and retain employees.

The 87,000-sq-ft building was created to house 175 engineers and staff on more than 11 acres in the suddenly hot manufacturing town of Mount Pleasant, Wis. It was designed with unobstructed views of the lab testing facilities from nearly every part of the structure. Acoustic ceiling baffles were installed for noise and vibration control.

Among the research capabilities the design team incorporated were a 3D printing and innovation area that uses additive manufacturing techniques to cut months off product development time; a commercial solutions and Grind2Energy lab to research food waste and turn it into renewable energy; and a hemi-anechoic chamber sound lab to test sound pressure, intensity and the power of food waste disposals.

“Our new modern headquarters and state-of-the-art lab space will facilitate continued InSinkErator innovation and growth, enabling us to showcase the leading technologies that we’re developing here in Wisconsin,” says Chad Severson, InSinkErator’s president.
