Unconventional sequencing and green building practices helped the team on the $61-million Andrews Distribution project construct a facility that would consolidate multiple Fort Worth locations and meet environmental standards.

Andrews Distribution is a beer distributor serving 38 counties across Texas. The facility’s project plans called for 475,000 sq ft of pristine concrete slab. To achieve this, the project team poured the slab after all walls, roof and overhead work was complete. This step required careful coordination between inspectors and contractors; if something failed, the entire area would have to be completely redone.

Making this step even more challenging, all steel work had to be inspected before pouring. And because the facility was constructed to meet LEED Silver certification, a LEED consultant had to make sure the building envelope plan was being correctly implemented.

The 482,000-sq-ft facility consists of three buildings to accommodate beer shipments, storage and order fulfillment and is the area’s only warehouse with solar panels.
