We’ve just closed the ENR Southwest design firm survey and now, the May 7, 2018 issue of ENR Southwest has determined its last unknown element: the Design Firm of the Year. This go-around, DWL Architects + Planners has been selected.

The ENR regional firms of the year are subject to a nomination process by that region’s editor. The nominations are then disseminated to the other regional editors and national staff who select their choice. The specific regional editor can only vote in case of a tie. The aspect of the nomination that caught the most attention from the majority of ENR editors about DWL Architects + Planners was the innovative, consistent architectural services.

Founded in 1949, DWL is one of the oldest locally owned and operated firms in Phoenix. Iconic structures the firm has designed over the decades include several jobs for Arizona State University: Charles Trumbull Hayden Library and Pedestrian Mall, Wells Fargo Arena. The firm’s relationship with the university continues with Greek Leadership Village, currently under construction.

The firm also has performed seminal projects for the city of Phoenix, including the Burton Barr Central Library, and Terminals 2, 3 and 4 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
