Chris and Angie Long, owners of the professional women’s soccer team, the Kansas City Current, have been named Midwest Owner of the Year in recognition of their leadership in construction of Kansas City’s CPKC Stadium, the world’s first stadium purpose-built for a women’s professional sports team.
The Longs were strong advocates for the stadium that opened in 2024 adjacent to the Missouri River in downtown Kansas City. They built the $120-million, 11,500-seat stadium to be not only a premier stadium for women’s sports, but a premier sports stadium overall.
The stadium is just one part of a multi-phase, $1 billion riverfront development project spearheaded by the Longs and taking place over the coming decade. It is expected to include hundreds of residential units, restaurants, bars, retail shops, a town square and a riverfront promenade.
A profile of the Longs will appear in the May 12 edition of ENR Midwest which covers 13 states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
