ENR Midwest has selected Kimley-Horn Associates Inc. as its Design Firm of the Year for 2023.

Design Firms of the Year are chosen by a vote of the regional ENR editors from across the country based on a carefully selected group of finalists. Factors include regional revenues, new initiatives, current projects, community and industry contributions and other considerations.

Kimley-Horn is a surveying, engineering, and design consulting firm that experienced more than 28% year-over-year organic growth in the region over last year. It maintains a balance between public-sector clients, including highway, aviation, transportation, water, utilities and others, as well as private sector work, which includes retail, multi-unit residential, healthcare, education, hospitality, sports and entertainment.

Kimley-Horn opened four new offices in the Midwest last year. There are now 14 Midwest offices, including Chicago downtown and Chicago northern and western suburbs; Columbus and Northeast Ohio; Detroit; Indianapolis and West Lafayette, Indiana; Kansas City, Missouri; Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin; and Rochester, Twin Cities, and Twin Cities West; Minnesota.

Some of its projects include preparing preliminary engineering plans and specifications for the East Segment of the proposed Southwest Light Rail Transit Project serving the Twin Cities in Minnesota.

It also provided preliminary engineering and programming services for Runway 5R/23L and Taxiway D including all connector taxiways at the Indianapolis International Airport.

In addition, it led a multidisciplinary team to design a major configuration of the MOA Transit Station. With 5,000 boardings every day, this is the most used transit station in the Metro Transit system

Kimley-Horn is a privately held firm that is owned 100% by its employees via an employee stock ownership program with no single individual owning more than 2% of its stock.

A profile of Kimley-Horn will appear in the May print issue of ENR Midwest, which will also feature our annual ranking of the region's Top Design Firms. Congratulations to this year’s winner!
