The 7,400-sq-ft lounge renovation project reimagined the space as a modern, luxurious environment tailored to high-traffic airport operations. The redesign not only created a more expansive and inviting atmosphere but also increased capacity by roughly 25%, ensuring that a greater number of guests can enjoy a comfortable preflight experience.

The renovation opened the space to deliver an open-concept layout featuring distinct zones for varied guest experiences. The refreshed design includes a central bar, buffet stations, open seating areas, a dedicated VIP dining section and a new, efficient kitchen. Elegant banquettes throughout the lounge are upholstered in premium German leather, while walls are adorned with sophisticated millwork panels enhanced by strategic accent lighting.

Coordinating the design and installation of a wooden-slat system that houses integrated LED lighting created multiple constructibility and accessibility issues that could have affected both aesthetics and maintenance. After identifying LED driver locations, wiring paths, fixture depths and clearances for installation and service, the team conducted joint sketch reviews to refine slat depths, integration details and light fixture mounting details to ensure support without compromising the slats’ sleek profile. A full-scale mock-up of the resulting design allowed all parties to inspect sightlines, lighting uniformity and ease of service access before production.

To keep the airline’s Germany-based leadership abreast of progress, the project team deployed a helmet-mounted 360-degree camera system to document the lounge’s transformation multiple times per week. This technology provided full transparency into the project’s current state, enabling virtual walkthroughs of the lounge throughout construction as well as detailed views of above-ceiling and in-wall rough-in conditions. Along with giving the airline client a real-time understanding of construction progress and schedule alignment, it also bolstered project quality control and assurance processes and contributed to the successful delivery of the renovated lounge on schedule and below budget.
