Bringing both urgent and primary care to the local community, this $228-million, 187,000-sq-ft, five-story medical building features the latest technology for surgery and patient care and features an ambulatory surgical center, urgent care and multispecialty clinics.
After finalizing schematic design, the team developed a target value design approach that kept costs on target by creating project clusters for major building systems. Long-term flexibility was also built into the design to allow for future service and building expansions, such as clinical exam spaces equipped with a modular design configuration.
As the project transitioned to construction, the team focused on UCSF’s goal to welcome patients in August 2024, developing a schedule that supported move-in approximately three months ahead of substantial completion through careful coordination with the inspector of record, building permit services and the campus fire marshall. Crews completed work both on time and within budget in June.
Neighboring the project was a nine-story parking garage that was also under construction and a vision center. To ensure the safety of visually impaired patients nearby, the team took extra measures beyond ensuring overhead protection and covered walkways. The team provided a dedicated valet parking area and maintained contrasting walkway pavers at the entrance throughout all phases of construction.
