Equipped with advanced technology and enhanced safety systems, this future-ready facility provides a modern and secure headquarters for the Celina Police Dept. The $31-million, 38,412-sq-ft space features limestone, glass, steel and exposed wood elements, which include heavy timber columns, glulam beams and cross-laminated timber decking.
To ensure the building’s longevity and minimize future rebuilds, the space features EF-5 tornado-rated safe zones and modular areas designed for expansion.
Material delays presented a major issue during construction, particularly with the interior load-bearing burnished concrete masonry units (CMU), which had a lead time of nearly three months. To accommodate the extra time, the team modified the original construction sequence, especially for the 4,000-sq-ft area adjacent to the storm shelter that had to remain unfinished until the materials arrived.
Vendor issues with the curtain wall and aluminum storefront system added to delays, but a change in manufacturers avoided extended setbacks. To protect the building in the interim, crews installed temporary plastic coverings over storefront openings.
