Located on the first floor and basement level of an existing Manhattan building, the state-of-the-art outpatient ambulatory specialized care facility features cutting-edge CT scan equipment to expedite examination of possible cardiac conditions and has advanced surgical equipment for performing emergency procedures. Also included are two added surgical rooms for milder invasive procedures, pre- and post-op rooms and patient and staff support areas. The lobby welcomes patients in a grand entryway that features a fully enclosed waterfall feature, an open reception desk and a white-noise system.
To install large, heavy medical equipment, the team had to remove exterior glass to create a move-in path, then reinstall the glass once the process was complete. Additional overhead structural support was also required. Building information modeling was a valuable tool to accommodate delayed delivery of above-ceiling indoor fresh-air units, enabling the team to install other mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and medical gas systems. Strategically placed ceiling openings allowed the air handling units to be installed safely above the existing building systems.
To ensure a ready supply of fresh air for the heating and cooling system, the team installed aesthetically pleasing louvers and reinforcement around the building interior. The project team ensured a safe jobsite and minimized inconveniences to other building tenants.
