Adolfson Peterson Starts Work on School Expansion

Adolfson & Peterson Construction and Douglas Unified School District No. 27 recently broke ground on an expansion and renovation of Douglas High School in Douglas, Ariz. The $27-million expansion includes four pre-engineered metal buildings encompassing 87,502 sq ft, additional classrooms and new athletics equipment and facilities.


AP also will pave a new fire lane, place a concrete paver turnaround for visitor access and install a canopy shade structure. The new structures will sit north of the existing campus on approximately 11 acres between Estrella and Eddie avenues. Construction on the Douglas High School expansion project will begin in September and is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2022. Sketch Architecture is the design partner, and Estimating Plus is the project manager for the district.

 

Six Contractors Join Forces for Construction Inclusion Week

Six general contractors—Gilbane Building Co., DPR Construction, Turner, Mortenson, McCarthy and Clark Construction Group—will launch the inaugural Construction Inclusion Week, to be held Oct. 18 to Oct. 22. The theme of the week is: “Building the Foundation for Inclusion.”

Construction Inclusion Week invites every member of the construction industry to unite to advance diversity, equity and inclusion. 

By working together, learning from one another, and being consistent in commitments and actions toward maintaining a safe and inclusive work environment—free of harassment, hate or bigotry of any kind—leaders say that Construction Inclusion Week aims to create positive change in the industry for generations of workers to come.

Construction Inclusion Week activities will be held on project sites and offices with the purpose of uniting construction professionals around the world to discuss leadership commitment and accountability, unconscious bias, supplier diversity, jobsite culture and community outreach. 

 

Design-Builder Clayco Opens Phoenix Office

Clayco, a full-service, turnkey real estate, architecture, engineering, design-build and construction firm headquartered in Chicago, has established an office in Phoenix as part of its Western expansion. The new office is located at 2398 E. Camelback Road in the Biltmore area. 

Clayco’s Arizona office is led by Anthony Johnson, executive vice president, along with a core leadership team of Kim Poole as vice president of economic development, Bryan Zehnder as vice president of operations and Lindsay Johnson as project executive. The deal marks Clayco’s second market expansion in the West in three months, following the opening of the firm’s Los Angeles and Orange County offices in May.

 

Mohr Capital Starts Work On Reno Industrial Facility 

Mohr Capital, a Dallas-based privately held real estate investment firm, has started construction on a 596,400-sq-ft speculative industrial facility at 1500 Waltham Way in McCarran, Nev.

Located at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in Reno’s East Valley industrial submarket, the facility is Mohr Capital’s first industrial development in Nevada. It equates to nearly half of the region’s 1.3 million sq ft of new construction starts in the first quarter of 2021, according to CBRE’s Reno Industrial MarketView for Q1.

The cross-dock facility is being built on a 39.64-acre site and will feature a 36 ft clear ceiling height, three access points, 96 dock doors, four 14-ft by 16-ft drive-in doors, 374 auto and 100 trailer parking spaces and motion-sensor LED lighting.
