This year, the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver drew more than 700,000 patrons. They came to see livestock, rodeos, a horse show and Colorado’s biggest western trade show. To prepare, the stock show’s promoters had a long list of improvements for the facilities. Upgrades included new carpet, renovated restrooms, new concrete, new windows and a repaired water line.

It was the 8-in.-dia, 450-ft-long water line—used for the show’s cattle—that created one of the project’s greatest complications. As the date for the show approached, expedited work got the repairs done in half the normal time. But two days before the show, a leak developed. The team repaired it by seven o’clock that evening, with one day to spare before the show began and a record-setting crowd arrived to enjoy the festivities.
