Adjacent to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, a world-renowned cancer facility, the new therapy center adds a two-story, 89,549-sq-ft concrete structure with four proton therapy treatment rooms, a cyclotron vault and a linear accelerator. As well as housing the medical organizations  of both Cincinnati Children’s and the University of Cincinnati, the $61-million space includes a clinic for the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute. Miles of copper line for compressed air and technical gasses, conduit for equipment rough-in and stainless piping for cooling water had to be imbedded in the concrete. Designed to allow redundancy from the existing hospital, the project team needed to install a plethora of additional lines and services coordinated with existing MEP systems. The run-through of the existing facility was in excess of 500 linear ft and took 11 phases to complete. The project team was able to deliver the clinical spaces in the hospital eight months ahead of schedule, and the equipment installation began three weeks ahead of schedule.
