The design for TBG’s new Dallas office was driven by a philosophy of earthy elegance, with simple materials like plywood and rope used throughout. But installation of the rope feature proved difficult. Because there was no existing model for how to accomplish it, the team faced technical issues in how to attach the ropes to the floors and wall. The tension loads began to pull drywall away from columns, and the attachments required reinforcing. Instead of using bulk fasteners on the rope, the team wove the hemp ropes together to create a sculptural and practical method of bringing the rope back into itself.
