The 1.6-million-sq-ft consolidated rental car facility was completed in September 2015. It includes the rental agency complex, a garage and customer service building.

Teams had to ensure that the airport’s parking revenue system remained operational at all times, so ahead of demolition, they built a temporary toll plaza to prevent disruptions.

Crews also maintained traffic flow while reworking existing roads. That included building a flyover exit ramp over the only airport roadway. To do that, the project team first built the structure on either side of the roadway and then used precast structural elements for the portion over the roadway. This allowed the team to install the section over the roadway in a single four-hour period, which required only brief traffic shutdowns.

To maximize resources, the contractor used two tower cranes in three positions to erect the building and carefully mapped out the pour sequence for the structure’s six sections. As a result, each crane was moved only twice during the 26-month schedule.
