PROJECT COST: $500 Million
This simple-cycle, natural gas-fired peaking power generation station is located on 100 acres of former farmland and features 12 natural gas-fired turbines capable of producing an electrical output of approximately 575 MW, enough electricity to power approximately 575,000 homes.
The project is designed to provide a quick response to peak power demands and also provide reserve capacity with the ability to add power quickly to support power reliability in the region. TransCanada has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Phoenix -based utility SRP to secure 100% of the output. Construction includes a plant operations building, transmission lines, water treatment building and water storage tanks. The design incorporates the use of clean burning natural gas, water injection nitrogen oxides reduction technology, and selective catalytic reduction equipment to reduce emissions.
