2014 Best Colo./Wyo. Safety Project & Highways/Bridges: Pecos/I-70 Bridge
Since its completion, the $18.6-million Pecos Street Bridge Over I-70 Replacement Project has received national attention for its innovations. It was one of the first CM/GC projects at the Colorado Dept. of Transportation in both preconstruction and construction.
Using accelerated bridge construction, the project team delivered a quality project sooner than would have been possible using traditional methods. The 159-ft-long, cast-in-place, post-tensioned concrete box girder superstructure was constructed off site in a nearby parking lot.
