Loebl Schlossman & Hackl of Chicago recently announced the national recognition of healthcare principals Abigail Clary and Mark Nichols. Clary has been named by Building Design & Construction Magazine to its annual “40 Under 40” list. Nichols has been named by the American College of Healthcare Architects as a board regent.

William F. Baker, structural engineering partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP of Chicago, will be recognized with the Gold Medal from The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) for his work as an internationally acclaimed structural engineer. Founded in 1908 and headquartered in the United Kingdom, IStructE is the world’s largest membership organization dedicated to the art and science of structural engineering.

The Gold Medal is the institution’s highest individual award for “exceptional and outstanding contributions to the advancement of structural engineering.” The award was fi rst presented in 1922 to Professor Henry Adams.

Emil Cook, vice president with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Inc. of Springfield, Ill., was recently named 2010 Outstanding Engineer of the Year by the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE), Capital Chapter. The award is based on engineering experience and accomplishments, and professional, civic, and humanitarian activities. Cook has been with CMT since 1972. He is a professional engineer in Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Cook has served as a design engineer, resident construction engineer, project engineer, project manager, modeler, Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) manager, department manager and business unit director for all phases of wastewater projects. He currently serves as CMT’s QA/QC advisor for Water and Wastewater Services.

Geotechnology Inc. of St. Louis - a provider of geotechnical and environmental engineering, materials testing, geophysics and drilling – has announced that Lucas Heuerman has earned certification as a special inspector for reinforced concrete. Heuerman received his certification from the International Code Council. This specialty certification enables him to inspect compliance with construction specifications and standards of cast-in-place concrete structures.

Heuerman is a laboratory & fi eld supervisor in Geotechnology’s Collinsville, Ill., office. He is responsible for all construction materials testing and observation fi eld and laboratory activities for the branch location.

Cemstone, an Upper Midwest leader in high performance concrete, engineering services, aggregates, decorative concrete and masonry products, recently announced that Tim Becken, the company’s senior vice president of operations, was installed this week by

the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) membership as the chairman of its board of directors. Becken, who was elected at the NRMCA Annual Convention in February, succeeds Henry Batton of Concrete Supply Company of Charlotte, N.C.

The Chicago office of HOK recently announced that Dennis Rehill and Will Mc- Connell have joined the architectural firm as senior associates. As a senior project designer/ architect, Rehill will work closely with many of the firm’s practice areas, providing both design and technical oversight with an emphasis on integrated sustainable design solutions.

McConnell will provide leadership on projects specific to the firm’s healthcare practice as a senior project manager.

Rehill earned his bachelor’s degree at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. He is a licensed architect in Illinois and a registered architect in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Rick Powell has been named a senior engineering manager in the Chicago office of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global infrastructure strategic consulting, planning, engineering and program/construction management organization.

In his new position, Powell will serve as project manager for highway engineering and planning projects in Illinois and other locations.
