In relocating its headquarters to Las Vegas from Atlanta, electronics recycling firm US Micro Corp. needed a secure and functional warehouse and office space that would also fulfill the company's environmental ethic.

Panattoni Construction of Las Vegas led the design-build project, which comprised a two-story, 25,000-sq-ft office building and 108,000 sq ft of warehouse space.

LEED principles were integrated throughout the design process and included the use of highly efficient HVAC and electrical systems, increased insulation ratings, T-light fixtures, large warehouse fans and other items.

Designers with DLR Group emphasized choosing products with recycled content, such as carpet and porcelain tiles, to echo the company's business model.

The design-build contractor held site-specific safety orientations for all subcontractor employees. Panattoni's Safe Start program requires that all subcontractors' site supervisors, project managers and safety professionals attend a group safety meeting before starting work.

Additionally, the contractor's employees were required to have training in OSHA's 10- and 30-hour programs as well as education in accident investigation, safety auditing, accident prevention and crisis management.

The contractor's site program includes online safety audit and incident recording processes, online access to all safety documents and online-based safety training.

Since this project was US Micro's first ground-up construction project, Panattoni and its project team needed to make several design revisions before completion of the project. These design changes often required last-minute attention and quick turnaround by the designers and the contractor in order to keep the budget and schedule on track.

By being proactive with the numerous revision options, the contractor was able to communicate with the design team and ensure that the original design intent was not overlooked.

Panattoni completed the project approximately 30 days ahead of schedule and under budget.
