Award of Merit Government/Public Building: Pueblo of Isleta Tribal Services Complex, Isleta, N.M.
This multi-level complex provides for a host of tribal services. The lower levels are reserved for public safety operations and tribal leadership activities, while the upper plaza levels serve all public functions. As the single most prominent function in the complex, the Tribal Council Chambers fills a two-story circular volume shrouded in a distinctive sculptural shade structure made up of stainless steel tubes. The design celebrates the cultural interdependence between work, worship and recreation by evoking the tribe's sacred social gathering spaces.
