The 150,000-sq-ft Greenville Health Care Center offers primary care, specialty services and mental health treatment for veterans in eastern North Carolina. The facility—seven times larger than the one it replaces—supports specialty and ancillary services for an estimated 20,000 veterans. The privately funded design-build project was built as a lease-back facility in partnership with the developer, VA Greenville Outpatient LLC. The Gilbane Building-led construction team used an integrated project delivery concept to meet the 24-month schedule, inclusive of design and construction. Despite the VA's historical challenges with this method, the team completed the project on time, under budget and to a new standard of completeness that enabled the VA to start using the facility immediately upon occupancy, the contractor says.
