Restoration of Gary's Marquette Park, part of the phased revitalization of Indiana's lakeshore, included renovations to a pair of historic structures, the neoclassical Marquette Park Pavilion and the Gary Bathing Beach Aquatorium.
With original doors, windows and skylights long gone, project team members referenced an array of historic photos in order to create replicas.
Project officials also created mock-ups in collaboration with a fabricator of historic light fixtures to replicate originals that achieved the efficiency of contemporary units.
Efforts extended to rehabilitation of black oak savanna, foredunes, lagoon and fish habitats, an undertaking involving more than 84,000 native plants and more than 200 lb of native seed.
