While 2011 was a tough year for subcontractors, some companies came through the recession healthy and perhaps even stronger. No other specialty contractor in the southwest shined as bright as Jack B. Henderson Construction Co. Inc. in the past year, and that’s why ENR Southwest has awarded the Albuquerque firm our annual Top Specialty Contractor of the Year award.

The company will be profiled in more depth in the September issue of ENR Southwest, but for now, suffice it to say that a 63% jump in revenue in 2011, coupled with an Arizona office opened during the start of the recession to handle a boost in work from the world’s largest chip manufacturer, impressed the ENR editors across the U.S. who voted on the finalists.

Also impressive were the firm’s excellent safety record, community involvement and unique mix of projects, including the Molten Salt Test Loop Project at Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico.

This isn’t J.B. Henderson’s first trip to the podium to accept an award. Just last week, the firm won the first ever Quality Contractor of the Quarter from Hoffman General Contracting and the aforementioned chip manufacturer.

Congratulations also to finalist Suntec Concrete in Arizona, which saw a 30% gain in revenue during 2011. You can see where the rest of the region’s specialty contractors ended up in 2011 in ENR Southwest’s Top Specialty Contractors ranking in our September issue.
