The International Transportation Service (ITS) South Slip Fill Project at the Port of Long Beach will create 19 acres of new land by using more than 2.5 million cu yd of fill material.
The $365-million program, designed by Moffatt & Nichol, includes a continuous wharf to accommodate two of the industry’s largest cargo vessels.
Halfdan Ross, ITS chief project officer, took a photo of the wharf and backland demolition works as well as a 72-in. stormwater pipeline with an iPhone 16. He says it shows the scale of the work within an active terminal.
“The anticipated construction timeline is relatively short to minimize disruption to the ongoing container terminal operations.”
