Inspired by the owner’s iconic brick, the curves of the stud-and-tube design are reflected throughout the entire 157,000-sq-ft office space, translating into many circular elements—from more than 40 round conference rooms to the circular pantries on every floor. Other features include sky terraces, more than 660 workstations, a gym, parents' rooms and flexible wellness areas.
Construction of four central staircases across five floors dictated the overall project schedule. Along with planning around the safety implications of a large hole in the space, the team also considered usability of each floor during construction and the logistics of maneuvering steel and other materials. Completing each staircase was a major milestone, allowing the team access to complete other areas of the floors.
Installing physical LEGO models—including one representing a DNA double helix that spins—required extensive coordination and good team working relationships for the extremely precise operation, including having a fire department team on hand as a safeguard.
