Located at an elevation of 7,881 ft, Mammoth Lakes is known for both heavy snowfall that can reach up to 400 in. annually and sunny weather. Facing the elements and an isolated location required impeccable planning efforts to realize this hotel project in just one year.
Getting workers and materials to the resort’s remote location could at times take the better part of a day. Logistics planning was critical to ensure supplies such as drywall and metal studs came in from Redlands and framing materials from San Jose arrived on time.
The building was originally designed with a rainscreen cladding system that featured multiple textures, but it came with multiple budget and time constraints. To help mitigate impacts, the KHS&S team developed an alternative, replicating the look using a prefabricated exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS).
These panels were manufactured in Lake Elsinore and shipped in for just-in-time deliveries. More than 400 panels were moved in groups of 4-8 panels per truck across mountain roads between May and October 2024.
