Six overlapping phases with concurrent design and construction transformed part of an existing 450,000-sq-ft corporate campus into a co-located and modernized facility for several state of Utah public agencies.
Updating this 1980s-era building and design palette to suit the post-pandemic work environment required full-scale renovations of each floor, building envelopes and systems.
Numerous public-serving divisions, including the courts, driver’s license division and Dept. of Motor Vehicles, comprise the building’s service core in this first significant step toward modernizing the state’s spaces to achieve greater efficiency, productivity, comfort and better overall employee and customer experience.
Designed with a focus on employees’ health and wellness, the final build prioritized wood elements, daylighting and scenic views. To maximize sunlight, the team utilized a continuous ribbon window design from the existing building. Through space planning efforts, offices and meeting spaces were kept off the window line, giving each work environment sunlight and stunning views.
For public-facing departments at ground level, there was a focus on creating calming environments.
Each phase was bid out separately to subcontractors, creating multiple teams and relationship dynamics as the project progressed through the different phases and floors of the building, helping ensure an on-budget and on-time completion in February 2023.
