The Houston construction market is seeing “a massive move toward LEED,” according to Domloj. “A building that is constructed to the qualifications of LEED certification is a building constructed with forethought ... and this is a great stride toward cutting down our negative impact on the world.”

The executive adds that “contractors and engineers ... understand the importance and benefits of LEED certification [and people also want] more green spaces and openness, trails and parks within their living environments.”

Houston’s new Memorial Park Land Bridge project features 25 acres of native landscaping over six lanes of traffic, Domloj points out. He also notes that  Phase 1 of the East River mixed-use development is nearing completion, with waterfront access, green spaces and environmentally friendly design.

“With the initiatives being adopted by many of the major cities and incentives to achieve LEED certification, there will be more new developments and redevelopments that strive to reach Gold and Platinum status in the very near future,”  Domloj says.
