The combined regional revenue of the firms listed on the ENR MidAtlantic Top Design Firms ranking not only increased year over year, but the 124 ranked firms working in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia also finished 2022 by surpassing the list’s pre-pandemic revenue total for the first time since COVID-19 arose in 2020.

The $6.68 billion in revenue reported on this year’s list is up 8.97% from the $6.13 billion reported by the 126 firms on last year’s ranking, which was the same amount collected by 126 firms on the 2021 ranking. Based on 2020 revenue, the 2021 ranking was down 2.7% from the $6.3 billion logged by 129 firms in 2019.

The 2023 edition of the ENR MidAtlantic Top Design list—based on 2022 revenue data—also includes a 10.13% increase in revenue reported by the top 10 ranked firms, which posted $2.61 billion in revenue, up from $2.37 billion reported last year.

Transportation continues to be one of the region’s top sectors. The $2.48 billion in reported transportation work is more than double last year’s $1.2 billion, which represented a 27% drop from the previous year.

AECOM, which ranks first on the main regional ranking with $541.52 million in revenue, had the most revenue in the transportation sector at $266.04 million, or 49% of its overall regional work.

The top 10 firms reporting in the power sector saw a combined $290.56 million in revenue, up 21.41% from the $239.33 million reported by the top 10 power firms on last year’s ranking.
