McCarthy Building Cos. announced Aug. 16 the completion of the $13.6-million, state-of-the-art Science Complex project at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix. The complex includes a 19,000-sq-ft Physical and Life Science building and a complete renovation of two existing buildings. STEM programs and laboratory sessions will begin at the facility in spring 2023.

New structural connections were made to join the two existing Physical Science and Life Science buildings, and the botanical garden was relocated. This fusion of the two buildings and the addition of the new building creates the SMCC Science Complex, which aims to attract and prepare future STEM students and will serve 5,000 students on campus.

Gensler served as the design architect and architect of record on the project.

Groundbreaking in Mesa For Power Industrial

On Aug. 4, Clayco celebrated the groundbreaking of Power Industrial, a four-building, flex-industrial development designed for various end users. It is located in the Pecos Advanced Manufacturing Zone in Mesa, Ariz., at the southeast corner of Pecos and Power roads.

Designed by DLR Group, the single-story speculative development is located in one of the Southeast Valley’s most active areas and will offer 583,955 rentable sq ft of industrial space.

Clayco is collaborating with civil engineering firm Cole and structural engineering firm PK Associates to complete construction by March 2023.

Big-D Construction Opens Heavy Industrial Office in Tempe

Big-D Cos., headquartered in Salt Lake City, has launched an industrial division in Arizona. Big-D Industrial is the 15th office for the company and the second to open in Tempe, Ariz. The new industrial office will focus heavily on building for the mining industry.

Work Begins on Hatcher Industrial Park

On Aug. 1, Ryan Cos. US and Westcore marked the groundbreaking of Hatcher Industrial Park, located along the Loop 303 corridor in Glendale, Ariz. Comprised of two buildings totaling more than 906,000 sq ft, the industrial park will provide Class-A industrial space.

The project is being developed in partnership with Westcore. Ryan Cos. is also the builder, and Ryan A+E Inc. is the architect.

Anticipated completion is scheduled by June 2023.

Groundbreaking of Advanced Industrial Park

On July 26, ViaWest Group, in partnership with Nicola Wealth Real Estate, joined Clayco and the city of Mesa to celebrate the groundbreaking of Advanced Industrial Park, a new speculative development.

ViaWest Group is developing the property and has contracted Clayco to construct the three single-loaded Class A modern industrial buildings with a total rentable square footage of 335,066 for distribution and warehouse purposes: Building A will be 122,690 sq ft, Building B will be 131,737 sq ft and Building C will be 80,639 sq ft.

Clayco is collaborating with Cawley Architects and JMC Engineering to complete construction in the first quarter of 2023.

Concrete Strategies Announces Phoenix Office

Concrete Strategies, a Missouri-based, full-service concrete contractor, has established a new office in Phoenix, located at 4100 E. Broadway Road, Suite 130. Led by Kevin Trail who serves as director of operations, Southwest region, the office already employees 10 office and 80 field personnel, with plans to expand.

This location will help the traveling contractor better serve the Valley business community, a region where the company has seen considerable traction. The firm currently employs over 800 office and field personnel nationally and completes over $500 million in revenue annually.
