Adding shoulders and pullover areas to the nearly 24-mile Lake Pontchartrain Causeway entailed managing construction along one of the world’s longest bridges while making contingencies for extreme weather.
Using the construction manager at-risk delivery method, Boh Bros. Construction designed and constructed twelve 1,000-ft-long pullover lanes made of precast components that were fabricated off site and transported to the water for installation.

With the project in hurricane-prone southeast Louisiana, the project team constructed safe harbor locations in the lake to moor construction barges during weather events and moved equipment in advance of tropical storms.
The project remained under budget, ahead of schedule and free of commuter accidents.
