The city of Fountain wanted safer connectivity and traffic progression in a fast-growing part of town. As ground zero for a planned major residential development, the area also is a main route for both the school system and provides the only access to the regional landfill. The heavy usage was taking a toll on the outdated road.

To remedy the problem, the city of Fountain and Waste Connections formed a public-private partnership to redesign and reconstruct approximately four miles of roadway, improving the safety of Link Road and Squirrel Creek Road, which leads to the landfill. Most construction was completed while maintaining traffic because there were few detour routes that would not overwhelm the limited infrastructure of the region.

Creative problem-solving, along with innovative field design and construction techniques, enabled the project team to meet the many challenges encountered on the multiphased project.
