The DC Dept. of Transportation is planning to start the H Street NE Bridge Replacement project in November. The $225-million design-build project known as the Hopscotch Bridge carries H Street over the railroad tracks behind Union Station. In order to make room for trains to pass below, the bridge rises high above H Street’s normal elevation. The new bridge, designed specifically to accommodate buildings on either side, will make it possible to develop the air rights above Union Station’s rail yard and replace the parking garage with a new train hall. The Smithsonian Institution, Office of Contracting, is proposing the Bezos Learning Center at National Air & Space Museum at 600 Independence Ave. SW. The $100-million design-bid-build project will be built on the east side of the museum’s plaza on the National Mall during the second half of the museum’s overhaul. It will feature activities and programs in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. The schedule is yet to be determine as the project is pending local approvals. Delaware 

The Reyboid Group is planning to start construction on the Avon Commons Apartment Buildings in December at 2100 Ogletown Road in Newark. The up to $50-million project includes two buildings each five stories above grade, totaling 200,000 sq ft. The buildings include three levels of wood framing over two levels of steel. Maryland

Anne Arundel County Dept. of Public Works is bidding the Crofton Meadows II WTP Expansion Phase II. The bid date for the nearly $50-million design-bid-build project is Feb. 1. The target start date for the project is April 1. The project includes an increase in capacity of the Crofton Meadows II WTP from 15 to 25 million gallons per day by adding additional sedimentation basins, filters and raw water wells. Well field will be increased from 15 to 21.5 MGD. The project will include new raw water isolation valves to allow for more operational control of the existing raw water mains to the plant and allow for building modifications and repairs. Northpoint Development is planning its Northpoint Dickenson Warehouse at 16910 National Pike in Hagerstown. Plans for the $75-million design-build project are under review by the local planning department. Further action is pending approvals and the owner’s decision to proceed. The project would include a 1-million-sq-ft  reinforced concrete building. Frederick Seibert & Associates is the civil engineer. The Peterson Cos. LC has proposed the National Harbor – Waterfront – Residential project on Waterfront Street near the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Fort Washington. The $75-million design-bid-build project includes approximately 580,000 sq ft of residential space for the new Waterfront District mixed-use project. The project will include 700 to 800 units. Gensler is the architect.
