In creating a new headquarters, the global design firm HDR used the opportunity to showcase the varied talents of its architects, engineers and planners. The 10-story Class A office building has achieved LEED New Construction v4 Gold certification with performance achievements that include a 68% energy use intensity reduction compared with the regional average. The 264,000-sq-ft building also earned a three-star rating from Fitwel, the highest rating possible under the certification system. The building’s modern curtain wall facade is chamfered at the corners to maximize square footage on upper floors. Contemporary interiors stress collaborative spaces. A five-level, 1,000-stall parking garage is connected to the building by a pedestrian bridge. The space between the two structures serves as an entertainment plaza that is served by a food hall with 10 tenants. The firm also worked extensively with BIM and VDC tools with contractor Kiewit to help deliver the two-year $110-million project on time and on budget.
