With space for 200 athletes and staff, this new building at Utah Olympic Park provides an affordable housing option during training and will be an invaluable asset should Utah be selected as the location for the 2030 Winter Olympic Games.
The project was built on a steep mountain slope on solid bedrock, and construction crews had to be mindful of protecting sensitive natural surroundings and wildlife.
Because this is a wood-framed structure, 3D BIM modeling was not feasible. To aid efficiency, the contractor’s virtual design team implemented a 2D overlay to detect clashes, which were corrected before field work began. In addition, the wood-framing contractor constructed a shop on site to prebuild headers, door openings and window openings to ensure that quality and schedule were maintained.
